On May 8, the City of Linden posted the following notice:
Due to main water leak and a loss of pressure in some areas the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has required our public system City of Linden water department PWS ID 0340004 to notify all customers to boil their water prior to consumption.
Robert Luzio, public works director, said the order was voluntary. He noted that water samples have been sent for testing and that he expected the results back by May 11 or 12. Depending on the results of the tests the order could be suspended or changed to a mandatory order.
He noted that it is standard procedure whenever there is a leak or loss of pressure to call for the voluntary order.
The TCEQ recommends that water should be brought to a vigorous, rolling boil then boiled for two minutes then cooled, in order to destroy any harmful bacteria or microbes that may be in the water. This is suggested for drinking, cooking and water used for making ice.
