BREAKING NEWS-- Cothren wins reelection

LINDEN—Cass County Precinct 3 Commissioner Paul Cothren was successful in his reelection, collecting nearly 60 percent of votes during Tuesday’s Republican Primary.

Cothren received 675 votes, or 59.86 percent to M. James Brooks IV’s 456 votes. Cothren held a 224-163 lead after early voting and then collected another 451 votes on Election Day.

CONSTABLE RACES

Three of the county’s four constable offices also saw races in the Republican Primary.

A runoff election will be held for constable of Precinct 2. While Anthony “Tony” Harrison picked up the most votes with 511, he failed to reach the 50 percent mark at 45.95 percent. Incumbent Jerry Goodson received the second most votes with 324. Ronnie S. Wilson received 277 votes.

John Smith won the race for constable of Precinct 3, with 64.72 percent of the vote or 708 votes to Robert McGee’s 386 votes.

Incumbent Don Rich had little trouble in his race for Precinct 4, has he received 1,129 votes or 79.62 percent. Richard Mixon picked up 289 votes.

Alton McWaters, the constable for Precinct 1, was unopposed in his reelection bid.
