LINDEN—The Linden-Kildare High’s Women’s Powerlifting squad dominated the Lone Oak Invitational Meet Jan. 30.
Not only did the squad place first in the meet, scoring more than twice as many points as the second place team Celeste with 47 overall points, but of the eight lifters who competed the school walked away with six first-place medals and one second-place medal.
Competing in the 105# weight class was Ebony Castleberry. She recorded a squat of 235, bench press of 95 pounds and dead lift of 220 for a combined 550 pounds, earning first in the weight class.
Treasure Hines took first in the 114# class with lifts of 210, 115 and 195 for a 520 total.
L-K finished one and two in the 123# class. Kayden Wells had a total of 580 pounds with La’Kei Patterson lifting 570 pounds. Patterson topped Wells in the squat 230 pounds to 220 pounds. Wells then posted a 110 in the bench to Patterson’s 100 pounds. Tied going into the last event, Wells edged out Patterson in the dead lift 250 to 240 pounds.
Competing in the 132# class, Averie Daniel had lifts of 235, 95 and 210 pounds for a combined 540 pounds, winning her the gold.
Jordann Schuler blew away the competition in the 148# class. She had a total of 725 pounds. The second place finisher, from Garland Naaman Forest, had a total of 555. Schuler had a 315 squat (the top squat in the meet), a 140 pound bench press and2 70 pound dead lift.
Also winning first place was Rameashja Allen, who competes in the 220+ class. She had a 295 squat, a 145 bench press and 325 dead lift (the top dead lift at the meet) for a combined 765 pounds. Allen was the second highest overall lifter at the meet (10 pounds short of the leader).
Skylar Vaughn competed in 105# class. After scoring a squat of 215 and lead lift of 230 she was poised to give Castleberry a run for first place in the class. However she bombed out in the bench press, giving her a “no-score” for her lifts.
A bomb out occurs when a lifter goes 0-3 in lift attempts for an event. This can be caused by either failing to lift the weight or committing an infraction (known as red lighting) during a lift.
Men place 5th at meet
In a tightly contested meet, L-K came in fifth on the Men’s side. The top three teams overall tied with 33 points apiece. In total points, L-K had the third highest at 19, which tied Lone Oak. However with a 574.88 average coefficient total, they were ranked five.
L-K saw their biggest success in the lightest and heaviest weight classes.
