Commissioner says he won't take pay raise

Across the board pay raise under consideration

During Jon Borseth’s campaign for Precinct 2 commissioner, he said that if elected he would not accept a pay raise.

“Raising taxes to give commissioners a raise, I don’t think it is right,” Borseth said. Borseth said that when a person runs for commissioner they know what the salary is going in and that they should not expect a raise. “That’s just me personally,” he said. “I don’t think I should get one after just seven months on the job.”

Discussion over salaries came up during a budget meeting the Commissioners Court held on Aug. 17.

One of the items proposed for next year’s budget is a 2-percent cost of living increase that would be given to county employees across the board, including commissioners. When the discussion turned to the cost of living increase, Borseth reminded the court of his promise not to take a raise.
