District attorney reports shortfall in office budget

Cass County District Attorney Randal Lee presented a report as a matter of record to Cass County Commissioners during court held Jan. 26.
Lee said since he took office they have disposed of more than 30 cases concerning jail inmates, temporarily relieving the jail overcrowding population at the moment.
He reminded commissioners that the DA’s office is the county’s attorney so if they have questions to please let him know.
“I’m a little rusty on county government law,” Lee admitted, “but give me time and I will get you (commissioners) the information you need to know.”
Lee told commissioners that shortly before he took office he was informed the DA’s office was over budget. Lee has taken steps to reduce the deficit in his office by decreasing salaries for first and second assistant district attorney positions.
