Local officers say farewell to one of their own
A 30-year career in law enforcement came to an abrupt end Tuesday night when Mark West, the lead investigator with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, died at a local hospital at the age of 58.
West worked many years with the Atlanta Police Department as sergeant of the APD Criminal Investigation Department, before joining CCSO in late 2009.
Those who worked with West say he was dedicated to his job and was also a good friend.
“Mark was a good man,” said T.J. Hawley, APD investigator. “He was highly dedicated to his profession. He was a great teacher and taught me what it means to be a good investigator.”
Hawley said, “He will be missed, and I am proud to call him a friend and mentor.”
APD Sgt. Allen Williams said West was the “best investigator” and friend anyone could have.
