DeLay takes first in state UIL

Seventy. That’s how many people he mentally counts are in the room. It was not a traditional classroom like he expected- more like an auditorium.
He moves his chair to calm his nervousness waiting for the prompt to be given out.
The moment it’s in front of him, Atlanta High School junior Dylan DeLay’s nervousness ceases and he prepares to write his story. This is something he knows and something he’s good at.
Dylan placed first in news writing at the UIL state meet held in Austin May 20.
“I could not believe it,” he said. “[Journalism teacher] Mrs. Greig told me earlier in the day that I placed in the top six. I was happy about that but I still wanted more. At the awards ceremony, it was nerve-racking sitting there as they called out the names, starting from sixth place and working down.”
