Cass County Juneteenth Club first Juneteenth Celebration will be from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 19 at Pleasant Hill Center, 2700 FM Rd 1399, Linden.
Activities are planned throughout the day. Organizer Oteria McDaniel said they will pay special tribute to those who are 80-plus years old. She said more than 40 seniors have been invited to attend and reminisce about the past.
Several games and contest will be held throughout the day. There will be food and drinks, best period costumes, something for all ages.
McDaniel said they will have the Best Baker of Cass County contest and it will be hard to choose because there are so many great bakers in the county.
Juneteenth is much more than a holiday.  It is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. It is a day for all Americans to celebrate African American history and rejoice in their freedom.
