Sisters win at 4-H Plant Show
Cooperative Extension Bowie-Cass 4-H Plant Show contest was held on May 10 at the Elm Street Community Garden in downtown Texarkana. Both Prairie View A&M – Cooperative Extension Agents Brandon Hawkins for Bowie County and John Ferguson for Cass County, hosted this 4-H Plant Show contest.
This event provided leadership and life skills opportunities to the youths in both the Bowie and Cass County communities. The plant show consisted of different plant categories and sub-classes that provided an array of plant options in which contestants could have entered.
Grand prize winners Mary Stanford and Ally Stanford received blue ribbons for first place overall in the Tropical and House Plant Division. The sisters provided handouts journaling their research, a project display, and answered questions posed by the judges on their project presentation. They answered the judges eloquently, and even provided information on the medicinal and economic benefits of the English Ivy plant Hedera helix.
