The former administrative assistant for the city of Atlanta has received five years probation for theft of property by a public servant.
Judy Nuckels, 61, of Atlanta was sentenced on May 28 by Judge Ralph Burgess who deferred adjudication of guilt for a term of 5 years probation in the case. Nuckels is to pay a $1,500 fine and restitution of $2,875. She is to perform 250 hours of community service and write a letter of apology to the victim.
Nuckels had been employed by the city since 1998 and was the payroll clerk at city hall.
In January 2013, City Manager David Cockrell told the Citizens Journal that staff detected an unusual activity within the city payroll system around the first of October 2012, which led to the discovery of at least $2,300 in mishandled funds.
