Remembering those lost in the line of duty

Law enforcement, county officials, family, friends and members of the community attended the Cass County Peace Officer Memorial and Appreciation held May 7 at the Cass County Law Enforcement and Justice Center.
District Clerk Becky Wilbanks welcomed those in attendance.
“It is my honor to welcome you here today to commemorate the memory of those law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting the citizens of this great state,” Wilbanks said with appreciation. “As we gather here at the second annual peace officer’s memorial program, we express our gratitude to those who lost their lives in the line of duty and also thank those who daily dedicate their lives to make our world a safer place to live. In solemn remembrance and with grateful hearts we say thank you.”
Invocation was given by Chaplin Mickey Rorex, Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper David Stewart read the list of law enforcement officers names as flowers were placed on their memorial monuments.
They are Constable Charles F. Perdue, Precinct 6, Cass County end of watch Jan. 21, 1889; Constable L.F. Blackwell, Precinct 5, Cass County end of watch July 31, 1937; Trooper Howard Wayne Jordan, Texas DPS, end of watch June 2, 1981; Trooper Scott Burns, Texas DPS, end of watch April 29, 2008 and Game Warden George Harold Whatley Jr., Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, end of watch Oct. 10, 2008.
“Taps” was played and Chaplain Texas DPS Dale Perkins closed the ceremony with the benediction.
