Hospital closes its doors in Linden

By Angela Guillory

It was a sad day for employees at Good Shepherd Medical Center Linden as after more than 60 years, the hospital closed its doors to patients.
Linden Municipal Hospital was founded in 1954. In 1960, citizens of Linden voted bonds to construct a new hospital at its present location.
The 21-bed hospital was built and completed in January 1961. Since that date the hospital has gone through several changes and additions. The Linden Hospital Authority was created in August 1964 to take over operations of the hospital from Dr. Roy S. Bucy and Vernon B. Glenn Jr. who had leased the facility since it was built. The first addition was completed on July 15, 1966 adding 21 additional beds to the hospital.
