Gathering scheduled March 29 to benefit volunteer fire district

The Huffines Community Center will host an all day gathering to benefit the fire fighters of Emergency Service District 1 (ESD1), Saturday, March 29. The center is located south of Atlanta at 6487 Farm-to-Market 251S, just past the intersection of FM 1841 and FM 251.
ESD1 is headquartered in McLeod and is comprised of volunteer firefighters from McLeod, Huffines and Kildare Junction.
The unit suffered many losses during the Bear Creek fires and needs new equipment to be able to service the southern part of the county, as well as support other firefighters in Cass County when needed.
The all-day event will begin at 9 a.m. with a performance by the Cowboy Church Band. The Phil Cox Band will play at 1:30 p.m., as well as other musical groups throughout the day.
At noon, soup and sandwiches will be served and a pot luck supper is planned for 5 p.m. Donations will be accepted for both meals.
Along with the melodic and gustatory delights, a silent auction will be ongoing and a Henry lever .22 Silver Eagle rifle will be raffled. The drawing will be at 4 p.m., but the rifle can be viewed at Queen City Pawn during the week. Raffle tickets can be purchased there as well.
All proceeds from the fundraiser will help to provide emergency equipment and supplies for ESD1.
If you would like to assist in the activities or provide food for the soiree, contact Angela Lowry at 903-490-6628.
