BOBBYE WHITEHORN HURDLE

April 16, 1933-2013
Bobbye Whitehorn Hurdle, 80, of Atlanta, left her earthly home and stands before her Savior with great joy. 
She was born at home on Easter morning, April 16, 1933, in Alamance to Newton E. and Susie Roberts Whitehorn. Early in life she made a commitment to Jesus Christ that she faithfully kept all her life. She loved her husband, her family, her church and shared a joy of living with all who crossed her path. She followed Jesus’ example and sought to better the lives of all she knew. She graduated from Queen City High School with the class of 1951, and was elected on of the first high school cheerleaders. She completed nursing training at Texarkana College nursing program in 1971. She was a nurse at Wadley Hospital, Atlanta Memorial Hospital and worked for Dr. Peter Pappas in Atlanta.  In 2003, she was named Atlanta Chamber of Commerce “Woman of the Year.”  She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Queen City, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years. She was an active member of the Atlanta Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary with over 2500 hours of service and vice president of Child Protective Services. She was preceded in death by her father and mother; a daughter, Ellen Mae Hurdle; a brother, Billy N. Whitehorn; and a grandson, Justin Sowell.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Loyd Hurdle;  her children, Debbie Birdwell and husband Steve of Red Lick, Mark Hodgkinson and wife Liz of Jacksonville, Fla., Mary Beth Sowell of Atlanta and Joe Loyd Hurdle of Atlanta; one brother, Larry Joe Whitehorn and wife Betty of Queen City. 
Her grandchildren will miss her encouragement.  The are Zach Hagin of St. Louis, Mo., Chance Birdwell of Houston, Chasidy Little and husband Patrick of Luling, Dustin Hodgkinson of Jacksonville, Fla., and Phillip Duke of Queen City, four great-grandchildren and a number of other relatives.
Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at Hanner Funeral Service.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m Sunday, Sept. 22, at First Baptist Church in Queen City with Bro. Joe Anderson and Bro. Mike Lovely officiating. Interment will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Caddo Parish,  La., under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service.
