Children susceptible to heat stroke
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has designated July 31 as National Heatstroke Prevention Day.
Since 1998, more than 550 children across the United States have died from heatstroke while unattended in cars. During 2012, a total of 32 children died of heatstroke in cars in the U.S., including five in Texas.
The most recent took place May 24. The Corpus Christi community mourned the loss of a one-year-old boy. This would be the third heatstroke death of a child in a car to occur in Texas during May and the fifth overall in the U. S. during 2013.
