The Texas Commission on Jail Standards issued a special inspection report on May 6 in reference to the Cass County Jail. Cass County Sheriff Larry Rowe said there was a form that wasn’t properly filled out and since that time, this issue has been corrected.
The commission’s report said that it was an initial custody assessment which was to be completed on all newly admitted inmates prior to housing assignments to determine custody levels. The commission reported that documentation received by the commission indicates Cass County is not classifying all inmates prior to housing.
“We didn’t have the right form,” Sheriff Rowe said. “We had some forms that were outdated that they were using, and we corrected that as soon as we found out. We went out of compliance May 6, and we were back in compliance on Friday, May 10.
“Another part of the non-compliance is that we can’t house any females over a few hours. We were in a bind and we were holding them a little long. We can’t do that anymore.” http://www.etypeservices.com/SWF/LocalUser/Atlanta1//Magazine28109/Full/index.aspx?id=28109
