Queen City ISD board to meet on Thursday
The Queen City ISD board will meet in regular session starting 7 p.m. Thursday in the Thornton Administration Building, 1015 Houston St.
Agenda items include December STAAR retesting results, 11-12 STAAR 3-8 testing results, Discipline Data Validation, consideration of adopting a school board calendar and call for joint election with the city of Queen City as well as campus and administrative, student enrollment and staff development reports and awards and acknowledgment.
The board will also hear a report and discuss the recent court ruling of State District Judge John Deitz in the court case of the Texas taxpayer and Student Fairness Coalition vs. the State/TEA.
Judge Dietz recently ruled the state’s school finance system has evolved into an unconstitutional state property tax and that the system fails to provide plaintiff districts access to
funding sufficient to provide a constitutionally adequate education.
Six hundred Texas school districts filed the lawsuit after the Texas Legislature’s decision in 2011 to cut $5.4 billion from K-12 education funding. The cuts came at a time when Texas was implementing a tougher, new school accountability system that holds schools accountable for preparing all students to graduate prepared for college and the workplace.
Specifically, Dietz found the current funding system does not provide adequate resources to give all students a real opportunity to graduate from high school ready for college or career; provide equitable funding that allows all Texas school districts to meet the state’s high standards; or provide local school districts and communities with meaningful discretion to provide local supplementation or enrichment above state requirements.
With action item N, the board will consider administrators’ contracts.
