M.U.M.S. Math and Science team wins first place

The Morris Upchurch Middle School Math and Science team competed at Foster Middle School on Oct. 24, in the first competition of the year.  The M.U.M.S. team won the first place overall trophy with a total of 3,011 points, second place Daingerfield had 2,979 points total and third place Atlanta had a total of 2,378 points.  
The MU.M.S team consisted of 31 students and brought home a total of 25 medals for placing in the top five of an event; four of the medals were for winning first place in the event. 
 
Individual results are as follows: 
For Number Sense: Adam Bowen – First place, Eighth grade; Eveyn Upchurch – Fourth place, Eighth grade; Claire Bates – First place, Seventh grade; Tallen Boone – Second place, Seventh grade; Austin McGee – Third place, Seventh grade; Connor McGee – Second place, Sixth grade; Aden Norton – Third place, Sixth grade and  Carson Dillinger – Fourth place, Sixth grade.
For Calculator: Julia Grogan – Fifth place, Eighth grade; Claire Bates – First place, Seventh grade; Mallory Abbitt – Second place, Seventh grade; Gracie Weeks – Third place, Seventh grade; Allyson Hamilton – Fifth place, Seventh grade; Chyna Stiger – Third place, Sixth grade and  Mackenzie Wincher – Fourth place, Sixth grade.
For General Math: Adam Bowen – Third place, Eighth grade; Tallen Boone – First place, Seventh grade; Austin McGee – Second place, Seventh grade; Claire Bates – Third place, Seventh grade; Carson Dillinger – Third place, Sixth grade and Parker Johnson – Fourth place, Sixth grade.
For Science: Gabi Gonzalez – Fourth place, Seventh grade; Colton Scoggins – Second place, Sixth grade; Jacob Simpson – Fourth place, Sixth grade and Amelia McHolland – Fifth place, Sixth grade.
Team coaches are Kendra Bates, Celeste Dellinger, Becky Russell and Principal Steve Holmes.
