Chamber starts crowdfunding effort for city fireworks show

By BOBBY HORN JR.
Plans are underway in Atlanta for a Star-Spangled spectacular to celebrate the nation’s birthday.
The Atlanta Area Chamber of Commerce will host SummerFest and Fireworks on July 2 from 4 to 10 p.m. The Festival will be held on the field behind the Atlanta Fire Department at 606 S. Louise St. This was the same site as last year’s Forest Festival.
Miranda Johnson, president of the Atlanta Area Chamber of Commerce, said that the event will feature vendors, music, a “Kids Splash Zone” and will culminate in a fireworks display
The chamber of commerce is now accepting vendor applications. They are also seek financial support for the event through “crowdfunding.”
“Basically, the concept of crowdfunding is to raise money for a project by getting contributions from a large number of people that believe in the cause,” Johnson said. “Since the Fireworks Show will give our whole community something great to enjoy, the crowdfund method is a perfect strategy to raise the money we need for this project! Plus, when a group of people are able to work together for a common goal, a stronger sense of community and enjoyment will be the result.”
Johnson said the idea of the project came from discussions with community leaders about the positive impact SummerFest could have on the community.
“I’ve spoken to leaders from other areas that host firework displays around July 4th, and each has strongly agreed that a positive economic impact comes along with the event,” she said.  “Our goal is not only to keep our people local, but also to attract visitors who may not have otherwise been introduced to everything Atlanta has to offer.”
