VFW holds annual Memorial Day ceremony

The sound of American flags whipping in the wind on Memorial Day told a story at the Veterans Plaza downtown Atlanta before a human word was ever spoken.
The memories of true heroes from the past to the present were honored on this sacred day, those who have served and paid the ultimate sacrifice for a country who they faithfully served so others may live freely.
“Their sacrifice is meaningless without remembrance,” Mike Lee, post commander of VFW Post 258 of Queen City stated during the opening speech. “If we don’t remember them, then they’ve died in vain.”
An empty chair marked POW MIA, which means prisoner of war, missing in action, was placed by the plaza’s monuments to honor those soldiers from all walks of life and regions of the country that never returned home from war and whose faces and names remain missing and silent. Although the whereabouts of these men and women are unknown their acts of courage will never be forgotten.
